Pamela Walker
Family, Infant and Child Care Center Volunteer
Pamela Walker has worked with children for close to 20 years. She was the toddler teacher at The Arc’s Family, Infant and Child Care Center (FICCC) for two years before a medical emergency forced her to resign in 2007.
Even after intensive therapy, Pam is still unable to work full time, but can fulfill her passion to work with the children who really need her by volunteering at the center. Pam begin her volunteer work in early 2009 and is at FICCC nearly every Wednesday morning in the Waddler classroom. She assists the educators in their daily work, joining in the activities of the day with a group of 1-2 year olds.
Pam’s enthusiasm is contagious. She brings a sense of joy to every activity—assisting in the classroom, singing and clapping with the children during circle time and helping during outside play. The children thrive from the extra attention she is able to provide and the staff appreciate her extra set of eyes and hands. Pam says that she doesn’t know why, but she has always wanted to work with medically fragile children. Pam continues to be an integral part of FICCC.
