The Arc Montgomery County identifies, creates and sustains inclusive communities that embrace and engage individuals and families affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our Definition of Inclusion
All people are valued members of their communities with equal rights. Everyone has the opportunity to make choices and construct fulfilling lives by developing mutual, authentic and lasting connections with other people. Each individual is appreciated and celebrated for his or her abilities. Inclusion changes perceptions and eliminates barriers.
Our Goals and Vision
We change the way people with intellectual and developmental disabilities interact with their communities. We promote environments that are mutually supportive and accommodating so all people have meaningful interactions and genuine relationships within their communities. We ensure people are as independent as possible at every age. We encourage people to make their own choices about employment, housing, educational and lifestyle opportunities. We strengthen the entire Montgomery County community by demonstrating our core values of advocacy, calculated risk, connection, excellence, inclusion, individuality and innovation.
We are leaders in creating intentionally diverse, barrier-free environments and we educate our community so everyone is invested in our success. We create mutually beneficial partnerships and assist individuals while ensuring their need for support does not limit their opportunities. We demonstrate the economic and social rewards of living and working in inclusive communities.
