STAND Together is a structured support group where self-advocates can share information about items of concern, upcoming activities, and legislation which may impact their rights or services.
Self advocacy is a lifelong journey of self-awareness, where people learn to speak for themselves. Self-Advocates ask for what they need, know their rights and responsibilities and are empowered, determined and educated. It’s never too late to be a self-advocate!
STAND holds formal meetings on the last Thursday evening of each month, and participates in special events which support inclusion and independence for people with disabilities. STAND members are occasionally called upon to share success stories with community groups, or even to testify before the Maryland legislature. They also offer positive encouragement to each other and engage in their community through volunteer service.
