commUNITY Mural: Shine Brighter Together

Saturday, April 23, 2022
11:00 am2:00 pm

April is Autism Acceptance Month! To recognize its significance, various organizations from across the county are “shining brighter together” at a fun family-friendly event at Wheaton Regional Park! Participate in hands-on, sensory-friendly activities while learning more about autism and the variety of resources available in Montgomery County. Attendees will also have an opportunity to help paint our commUNITY Mural that will remain at the playground long after the event is over.

Bring a picnic or purchase food from an on-site food vendor.

Activities include a chalk hop challenge, parachute games, sensory storytime, bubbles, arts and crafts, and more.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Join us as we paint a larger-than-life mural at the event that represents diversity, inclusion, and acceptance in Montgomery County. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Background of commUNITY Mural
The mural design was inspired by Montgomery County Elementary School students who placed in The Arc Maryland’s “Together We’re Better” art contest. The art contest was created to raise awareness of the value and importance of the inclusion of students with disabilities in schools and in the community.

The final artwork was designed by Justin Valenti and transferred to the wall by mural artists from M-NCPPC Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation.

The event will include a sign language interpreter, a sensory retreat tent, wheelchairs, walkers, and other adaptive equipment, and Park Police Search and Rescue Division and Mounted Units. To request other reasonable modifications, please contact 301-495-2581 or ProgramAccess@MontgomeryParks.org.

This event will be held at Wheaton Regional Park. Rain Date: Saturday, April 30.
