The Arc Montgomery County Karasik Family, Infant & Child Care Center, affectionately known as KFICCC, is an Early Childhood Education Center that also provides child care. In addition, we offer a PreK program designed to prepare children for kindergarten. In every classroom, children with developmental disabilities, children with special health care needs, and children who are developing typically play and learn together. Employees include pediatric registered nurses, trained child care providers, and a family worker. Every child enrolled at KFICCC has the opportunity to thrive!
Classrooms are divided, so each child is placed on their individual needs, rather than strictly on chronological age. The progressive, well-equipped program is funded through private paying clients and grants from the Maryland State Department of Education. Most programs do not have a curriculum for children at this age, and it makes a difference, particularly for children with developmental delays. Parents can also apply to other agencies for grants to help with the cost of care. KFICCC is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education and has received the highest possible rating under Maryland Excels—the state’s quality rating and improvement system for licensed childcare and early education programs.

What is the ratio of adults to children in the KFICCC classrooms?
The minimum ratios of adults to children are mandated by childcare licensing requirements that KFICCC strictly follows. In addition, KFICCC often arranges to have an additional assistant in the room beyond the licensing requirements. Depending on the needs of the students, KFICCC may not fully enroll a classroom in order to increase the adult to child ratio. (Therapists and nurses are not included in the adult to child ratio.)
Parents should inquire about the ratio of adults to students in the specific classroom in which their child may enroll.

In what kind of pre-service training have KFICCC teachers participated, and in what kind of in-service training do the teachers engage?
KFICCC PreK teachers must meet the standards set by the Maryland State Department of Education and must be paid commensurate with MCPS early childhood educators. KFICCC teachers are required to have an associate degree or to be continuously enrolled in school to attain an associate or bachelor degree. KFICCC offers free training programs to help teachers take courses or attain the certification they need for promotion.

Can a child in the childcare program and in the PreK program have their Applied Behavior Analyst (ABA) therapist work with them or support them in the classroom during the day?
Yes. KFICCC permits a child’s ABA therapist to support them in the classroom during the day.
